Admission Criteria

The interdisciplinary studies in three departments major is an impacted program. To be admitted to the interdisciplinary studies in three departments major, students must meet the following criteria:

• Students applying to SDSU may not enter as IS3D majors.  New first-year or transfer students must apply to the major after enrollment.
• Complete preparation for the major; pre-approved two lower division courses (6 units) in each of the three disciplines unless otherwise specified.
• Complete a minimum of 60 transferable units. 
• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
• Design a customized plan aligned with catalog requirements that receives preliminary approval first from IS3D and then from departmental advisers.  Any updates to the custom plan must be approved by the IS3D advisors.

If you do not yet meet the admission requirements mentioned above but are interested in the major please contact our office to talk about steps moving forward including the creation of your custom plan, coursework, or any other questions. 

Additional Admissions Criteria

• Students may not apply for admission to the major during the semester in which they plan to graduate, no exceptions.
• No student who is in good standing in their current major within 15 units of graduation will be considered for admission.
• Students must receive the approval of their custom plan from IS3D advisor before seeking departmental advisor approval.  IS3D advisors are authorized to approve for the following departments so long as the customized course of study adheres to currently approved guidelines: AFRAS, ANTH, CCS, COMM, ENVS, GEOG, JMS, KIN, LATMA, MATH, PH, POLS, PORT, PSY, RELS, RWS, SOC, SPAN,STAT, SUST, SWORK, WMNST.  
• Students may not double-count their declared minor for one of their three IS3D departments. If a student would like to use their minor as a discipline for IS3D, they must first delete their minor before applying to IS3D.

Admitted Students

Current Major Requirements 

• Complete a minimum of 36 units selected from three departments:(A) with no fewer than nine units from each of the three departments; and (B) with no fewer than six units from each of the three departments completed at SDSU; and (C) with minimum grade point averages of 2.00 in each of the three departments.
• You must review your degree evaluation every semester before enrolling in courses. 
• Language Requirement must be met prior to graduation. 
• Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) course must be passed with a grade of (C) or better prior to graduation.
