Interdisciplinary Career Exploration
IS3D students use their interdisciplinary background to pursue many different pathways. Our program is designed to support students as they find their first job AND prove them with the skills they will need over the course of their entire career as their job responsibilities change over time. Also, many careers like Video Game Designer, Homeless Outreach Coordinator, Clinic Manger or AI Analyst do not require a specific college degree. Instead, they require people with interdisciplinary backgrounds who are thoughtful, critical thinkers, and able to solve problems.
We encourage students to explore the 12 different Career Pathways that SDSU’s Career Services has identified, and think about how their IS3D Custom Plan will support working in these different parts of the economy. There is no “one-size-fits-all” way to explore interdisciplinary careers: technology firms need people with excellent writing and communication skills, and the hospitality industry needs people who understand sustainability. Similarly, adding a language or a discipline such as Africana Studies, American Indian Studies, Asian Studies, Chcana/Chicana Studies, Latin American Studies and Women’s Studies provide students with essential capabilities to succeed in diverse environments. Our program is designed to help students learn about who they are and make connections in industries so they can create a degree that works for them and their future.
